  1948 - Prairie founded.
1971 - Acquires Halsted Street ready-mix yard in southeast Chicago.
1972 - Establishes a new ready-mix yard in suburban Romeoville, southwest of Chicago.
1974 - Acquires ready-mix yard in suburban Hodgkins.
1975 - Purchases ready-mix yard and trucks in south suburban South Holland.
1976 - Purchases ready-mix yard at Belmont and Kedzie on Chicago's northwest side.
Establishes ready-mix yard in west suburban Des Plaines; adjacent to O'Hare International Airport.
1977 - Acquires ready-mix yard at 32nd and Benson Street on Chicago's south side.
1980 - Acquires Evanston Fuel and Material Company with ready-mix yards and trucks in north suburban Glenview, Fox Lake, and Mundelein.
Acquires A#1 Express and Cartage to haul cement for Prairie and others on a contract basis.
1981 - Acquires Illinois Brick Company.
1982 - Establishes a ready-mix yard in west suburban Batavia.
1983 - Acquires Dixon-Marquette Cement Company, 90 miles west of Chicago.
1984 - Commences operations of a stone quarry in Plainfield, 25 miles southwest of Chicago.
1985 - Establishes ready-mix plant in northwest suburban Dundee.
1988 - Purchases ready-mix site in west suburban Addison.
1989 - Establishes ready-mix operations in the metropolitan Indianapolis area.
1993 - Acquires Indiana Ready Mix, Inc. in Terre Haute, IN operations and opens 2nd yard.
1993 - Acquires Chicago suburban Ramm Brick Company (La Grange) and Holman Brick Company (Schaumburg).
1994 - Purchases sand, gravel and stone quarrying operations in northwest suburban Chicago markets (Elgin, Elburn, East Dundee and Marengo).
1995 - Acquires ready-mix operation of Tiger Concrete (formerly Material Service Corp.) in Chicago, suburban Romeoville and Palatine, IL.
1995 - Acquires operating limestone quarry in south suburban Manteno, IL.
1996 - Purchases brick distributors Brady Brick, Woodstock Brick and Beck Brick in northwest suburban Chicago.
Establishes a new brick showroom/distribution facility in southwest suburban New Lenox, IL.
Acquires Dealers Ready Mix LLC in north suburban Highland Park, IL.
1997 - Purchases the Central IL ready mix, aggregate, block manufacture and brick distribution business' of Lone Star Industries, Inc. with facilities in Decatur, Bloomington, Peoria, Danville, and Mattoon. Acquires (3) ready mix plant sites from Central Material Co. in Champaign, Monticello, and Farmer City, IL.
Purchases operating stone quarries in the Pontiac/Ashkum, IL market.
Establishes new ready-mix plant location in Bloomington, IN.
1998 - Acquires assets of Patrone Ready-Mix in Melrose Park, IL.
Acquires assets of Accurate Ready-Mix/ Best Brick Co. with locations in Harvey and Monee, IL.
Purchases Central Ready-Mixed with locations in the Greater Milwaukee, WI area.
1999 - Acquires assets of Lakeside Building Products, Inc. located in Mt. Clemens, MI.
Acquires ready-mix plant located in Greenwood, IN.
Purchases Custom Brick Co. located in south suburban Lansing, IL.
2000 - Purchases Urban Sand & Gravel with pits in Rantoul, Paxton, and Mahomet, IL.
Acquires Edgewood Brick & Supply Co. located in Indianapolis, IN. Acquires Brighton Block & Concrete and Spartan Concrete located in Brighton and Novi, MI.
2001 - Acquires ready-mix plants in Naperville and South Elgin.
2002 - Opens Sand/Gravel reserves in Waverly (Mooresville) IN
2003 - Divests Dixon-Marquette Cement to Cemex, Inc.
Prairie also acquired Lebanon Concrete Services located in Lebanon, Indiana (LCS is now known as Hoosier Concrete)
2004 - Acquires additional aggregate reserves in Waverly (Mooresville) IN
2008 - Votorantim Cement acquires Prairie Material Ready Mix, Aggregate and Trucking divisions
